Review of EmuCasino

Emu Casino is certainly one of the more uniquely named casinos that we have seen recently. The casino caters primarily to Australian punters who will all know exactly what an Emu is (a large flightless bird related to the Ostrich), and offers a wide variety of games powered by the Microgaming Quickfire instant play system.
Software and Games

The Microgaming Quickfire system is an interesting beast. When we think of Microgaming casinos we generally think of a monolithic library of 500+ games installed via their Windows-only software. However Quickfire is a newer product that enables casinos to run a smaller selection of the newer (and generally better) Microgaming games, along with others from different developers such as Sheriff Gaming and Quickspin, all inside your browser window regardless of which operating system you are running.

Slot games, blackjack, video poker, roulette, scratch cards, and bingo are all offered by Emu Casino, with several titles under each category. The casino itself is able to boast more than 250 games, with new games added to the library each month. While we are generally happy when it comes to Microgaming’s library of titles, it is great to see Sheriff Games brought into the mix. Melding the libraries of the two companies allowed us to enjoy great games such as Mega Moolah, The Amsterdam Master Plan, and The Dark Knight all in one location.

Most of the Microgaming progressive jackpots are available to win at Emu Casino. These jackpots are all networked between all casinos running Microgaming software, which means that the progressive pools grow quicker than if they were funded solely by one casino. There are some extraordinary jackpots on offer, including The Dark Knight / Mega Moolah jackpot which has been won before at over $5 million.
Bonuses and loyalty program

Emu Casino offers a fairly standard sign up bonus that is comparable to other Microgaming casinos. What we found more interesting though was the loyalty program that pays cashback based on the amount you wager, irrespective of whether you win or lose. It is a little complicated but in simple terms, the casino pays back around 1% of all wagers made on slots in the casino to its players each week. Each player receives a share of the cashback according to the percentage of total wagers they made in the preceding week. What it means is that it is possible for you to receive more cashback than what you actually deposited if you managed to wager it many times.
Banking, service, and security

Banking options at Emu Casino are a little limited, although this should not cause problems for the mostly Australian clientele. The casino transacts in the usual currencies, US dollars, Pounds Sterling and Euros, along with Australian dollars. Deposits and withdrawals across the board carry no fees, which we found to be a positive difference from many other spots we review. Options for depositing and withdrawal of funds include Visa and Visa Debit cards, Mastercard, Moneybookers and Neteller, along with Diner’s Club and Maestro for deposits only. Wire transfers are also available for those looking to withdraw larger amounts, although this can take up to 10 days to process.

Customer Service has improved since we first reviewed the casino. At the time there was no live chat support but we are pleased to see that the casino has recently added live support to their repertoire. It is the perfect solution for those quick queries you may have that need an immediate answer. Support may also be contacted via telephone (with local numbers for Australian and New Zealand players), email, or web form.

On the security front, Emu Casino uses industry standard encryption to safeguard your transactions and personal information. Identification documents are required to be verified before you make a withdrawal. An interesting thing that we have not seen at an online casino before is the use of two-factor mobile phone based authentication when signing up for an account. This requires you to verify that you signed up by entering a code sent to your mobile phone. This is great to see, although in our opinion it doesn’t go far enough and we would like to see it also used when making a withdrawal on your account for example.

It should also be noted that Emu Casino has its payouts audited and published by eCOGRA each month. This sort of transparency is always a good sign that the casino is a reliable place to put your money. In addition we note that the casino stipulates in its terms that player funds are held separately from the casino’s day to day operational funds, meaning that in theory player funds should be safe from any financial mismanagement of the casino.
